  • 500 grams Fish pieces (I used kingfish)
  • 12 numbers Shallot chopped
  • 1 heaped tablespoon Ginger chopped
  • 1 heaped tablespoon Garlic chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Kashmiri chilli powder
  • 1 tablespoon Chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 2 - 3 numbers Gambooge (kudampuli)
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil
For Seasoning
  • 3/4 teaspoon Mustard seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fenugreek seed
  • 2 numbers Shallot sliced
  • 2 Sprigs Curry leaves
  • Coconut oil

Fish Vattichathu
Instructions
  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan, saute shallot, ginger, and garlic till light brown. Add Kashmiri chilli powder, chilli powder, and turmeric powder along with little water and saute till oil separates, and the mixture turns dark brown.
  2. Add the required amount of water, gambooge, and salt. Bring to boil. Place the fish pieces gently into the gravy and rotate the pan to get the pieces covered with gravy. Cook till the fish is cooked and the gravy is thick. Remove from fire.
  3. Heat oil in a small pan, fry mustard seed, fenugreek seed, shallot, curry leaves and add to fish vattichathu.
  4. NOTE - Soak the kudampuli in little water before adding to the curry.
  5. One tablespoon = 15 ml, one teaspoon = 5 ml.
