Ingredients
  • 500 grams Indian Mackerel (measured before cleaning)
  • 3/4 cup Tomato chopped
  • 8 numbers Shallot sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic sliced
  • 1 number Green chilli sliced
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Kashmiri chilli powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • Tamarind pulp to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil
For Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fenugreek seed
  • 4 numbers Shallot sliced
  • 2 sprigs Curry leaves
  • Coconut oil

Ayala mulakittathu
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a wide pan, saute shallot until golden. Add ginger, garlic, and green chilli, saute until the raw smell goes. Add Kashmiri chilli powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, and turmeric powder along with little water and saute until oil separates.
  2. Add tomatoes and cook till it becomes soft. Add fish pieces, tamarind pulp, and required amount of water. Cook until the fish is cooked and the gravy is thick. Remove from heat.
  3. Heat oil in a small pan, fry mustard seed, fenugreek seed, shallot, and curry leaves and add to the curry.
  4. NOTE - One cup = 250 ml, one tablespoon = 15 ml, one teaspoon = 5 ml
