Cherupayar Curry
Cherypayar curry is an easy green gram curry made without coconut. This curry goes well with pathiri, appam, etc.

Ingredients
  • 3/4cup Cherupayar(green gram)
  • 3/4cup Onionchopped
  • 1/2cup Tomatochopped
  • 2teaspoons Garlicchopped
  • 1number Green chillichopped
  • 1/2teaspoon Chilli powder
  • 1/4teaspoon Kashmiri chilli powder
  • 3/4teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1/4teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • Saltto taste
  • Oil
For Seasoning
  • 3/4teaspoon Mustard seed
  • 1/2teaspoon Cumin seed
  • 4numbers Shallotsliced
  • 1number Dry red chilli
  • 1sprig Curry leaf
  • Oil
Instructions
  1. Soak the green gram overnight or at least 8 hours. Pressure cook it with the required amount of water and salt. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and saute onion until golden. Add garlic and green chilli, saute until the raw smell goes.
  3. Add chilli powder, Kashmiri chilli powder, coriander powder, and turmeric powder along with little water and saute until raw smell goes. Add tomatoes and cook till it becomes soft. Finally, add cooked green grams, mix well, and boil for a few minutes.
  4. Heat oil in a small pan, fry mustard seeds, cumin seeds, shallots, dry red chili, and curry leaves, add to the curry.
  5. NOTE – One cup = 250 ml, one teaspoon = 5 ml
